Implementation Coordinator job Description
Turnaround Arts is a public-private partnership created by the President's Committee on the Arts and the
Humanities (PCAH), in coordination with the U.S. Department of Education and the White House Domestic
Policy Council. The program is designed to bring effective and integrated arts education into some of the lowest
performing elementary and middle schools in the country. Through this initiative, schools in the process of
reform develop new strategies and tools to shift school culture and climate, and better engage students and
parents through the arts.
The Turnaround Arts: California office seeks to establish an Implementation Coordinator qualified candidate
pool, which we will consult on an as needed basis, in order to identify candidates to interview to meet the needs
of our organization's projected growth. The pool will remain active for a period of up to three years (through
2018).
Implementation Coordinators will be responsible for providing quality control and consistent application of
professional development, strategic planning and coaching for a designated cohort of schools throughout the
state. The ideal candidate will be passionate about mission driven work, a highly independent and selfmotivated team player, and excited about working for a new non-benefit with a small but energetic staff. Join us

Specific job responsibilities:
• Coordinate, track, monitor and regularly report on program implementation at Turnaround Arts public
school sites
• Consult frequently and regularly with school leaders to discern best practices and advise on specifics
related to implementation
• Oversee and guide the formation of Arts Leadership Teams at each school site
• Foster one or two clearly designated Arts Leadership Team leaders who take on prescribed roles and
obligations
• Coach and advise site-based Arts Leadership Teams on best practices related to professional
development, arts programming and arts integration
• Schedule regular school site visits to check in on progress
• Develop tools to support instruction in and through the arts, coordinate and structure peer observations
and facilitate teacher collaboration
• Coach arts specialists in program development, arts integration strategies and curricular leadership
• Support collaboration between arts specialists and classroom teachers
• Model arts integration practices for staff
• Plan, coordinate and contract with providers to present and deliver professional development, as well as
personally deliver original and tailored professional development workshops, on various relevant topics
counting arts integration strategies, alignment with Common Core and assessment
• Keep schools up to date on best practices and research on arts education, shared leadership models,
peer support organize structures and effective meeting facilitation
• Introduce and lead writing and implementation of School Level Strategic Arts Plans at each stage of
improvement
• Schedule monthly Arts Leadership Team leader cohort meetings in order to foster a cohort of Arts
Leadership Team leaders across Turnaround Arts schools
• Schedule regular cohort meetings with arts specialists
• Vet partner arts organizations and teaching artists for quality implementation practices
• Support budget development and collaborations with program partners
• Coordinate schedules for teaching artists and residencies and support transfer of teaching artist
techniques to school staff
• Support messaging to media and educational community about the program's mission, successes, and
strategic approach
• Gather resources from Turnaround Arts schools and outside organizations to cross-share across the local
cohort and with Turnaround Arts: National
• Plan and strategize with Turnaround Arts: National team as needed
• Compose letters, e-mails and presentations with clear writing and proper grammar
• Maintain highly organized digital and paper filing systems
• This position will require 30-40% travel to school sites
• Assume other responsibilities as requested
Minimum qualifications:
• Bachelors degree in education or related field from an accredited institution; Masters degree preferred
• Minimum of four years of experience teaching in a school setting; public school experience preferred
• Demonstrated effective school leadership or instructional coaching experience
• Curriculum development experience (Candidates under serious consideration will be asked to provide
work samples.)
• Background in arts education and arts integration
Required skill sets:
• Self-motivated team player, excited to play a critical role in a small office and contribute to meaningful,
mission driven work
• Strong oral and written communication skills, demonstrating tact, diplomacy and accuracy
• Ability to quickly adapt to changing circumstances and priorities, take appropriate initiative and work
freely
• Desire and ability to develop and coach the development of culturally relevant pedagogy
• Comfortable with performing various tasks and coordinating ongoing programs at numerous destinations
• Ability to professionally format letters, agendas, complex schedules and other documents
• Ability to build relationships with diverse partners and stakeholders; strong connections to California
arts communities preferred
• Fluency with Microsoft Office Suite
